This machine, while retaining the hydraulic system for its arm manipulation, integrates an electric motor for powering its wheels and accessories. 

This hybrid approach maintains the familiarity of traditional excavators while introducing the benefits of electrification. 

The model's 48-volt onboard battery pack offers a 32 kWh capacity, providing up to 3 hours of continuous runtime, sufficient for a full work shift above ground.

How we see this is that Cat has identified shortfalls with going to electric, and they're doing everything they can to mitigate those disadvantages.

While the electric excavator represents a significant advancement, there are challenges, particularly in colder climates where the hydraulic system may take longer to warm up. 

On top of that, most excavation sites we've worked at don't have power. In fact, sometimes, it's our excavators that trench the way for power to be installed.

There are workarounds to this, such as using generators to charge up the batteries, but that somewhat defeats the purpose, right?

However, the benefits outweigh these initial hurdles, offering an environmentally friendly and cost-effective solution for the construction industry.
